The article reconstructs and analyzes the trajectory of public policy decisions associated with the use of agrochemicals and the promotion of alternative production models, as sustainable territorial development policies, in Buenos Aires province between 1990 and 2020, comparing it to the rest of the country. Departing from previous studies, the methodological approach combines secondary statistical data with secondary information available in both public and private organizations and institutions, regulations, and interviews of key stakeholders. The results indicate a tendency to respond to external market demands in most of the reference period, showing a recent change towards agroecology promotion. The proposed analysis allows us to glimpse the agri-food system not only as a provider of one of the basic needs, but as a political scenario in which sociocultural, economic and political aspects converge in constant struggle.
