This paper seeks to expose what statute of limitations are, making a brief historical review of this institute, its reason for existence, observing both the extinguishment of rights or obligations due to the passage of time and adverse possession, including the very brief statute of limitations under section 65 of the LOT. This paper is intended to be a simple read, useful for information for anyone who does not know the subject. Procedural law issues such as preclusion are also briefly explored.
