“Angels of Death”
Truth and fiction in Uruguayan criminal proceedings.

Considering the court case involving the so-called "angels of death" or "murderer nurses", the relationships between truth and fiction in Uruguayan criminal proceedings are explored. The new institutional design imposed by the recent criminal proceeding reform requires an effort to understand truth games in legal discourse and their articulation with fictional stories created in parallel and remaining in constant dialogue. Drawing from some analytical categories of literary theory, philosophy, and legal theory, this paper intends to make evident the fundamental relationships, frequently unnoticed, between truth and its fictionalization in the storytelling intended to be justified, and demanding the application of criminal power.
