Analysis of the concept of torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment in the judgment of «IV vs. Bolivia» of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights

This paper presents an analysis of the concepts of torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, in relation to how the Inter-American Court of Human Rights studied and assumed the mentioned concepts, when adjudging on the case of “I.V. vs. Bolivia” in 2016. The analysis will continue with the study of the arguments raised in the judgment of the Inter-American Court regarding the case we are dealing with, which took place at a Public Women’s Hospital in Bolivia. Finally, we will highlight the implications that this particular ruling of the Court has determined in the interpretation of the concept of torture and ill-treatment in the future.
