Abstract

This article focuses on the stage of constitution of radio broadcasting as a means of communication in Montevideo during the thirties, considering that this is a key stage to understand the specific features it adopted. It is a transitional stage between the first trials of the twenties and the deployment of the commercial model in the forties, already with a consolidated mass audience. These years allow us to recognize the lines of continuity in relation to the practices that preceded it and at the same time allow us to observe how the outline of a medium is delineated in times when it is becoming massive. In short, it is a look at society and culture from the point of view of the medium. This article will examine the cultural connections, the miscellany as a form adopted by radio, the presence of writing in radio and the active participation of the audience.
